Adobe Illustrator works very differently than Adobe Photoshop does. You can do all different things and create all different types of art. There are things you can do in Photoshop but not in Illustrator, and there are things you can do in Illustrator that you can't do in Photoshop. Vector graphics and bitmap graphics are very different from one another as well. In Illustrator, you work more with shapes and lines than you would in Photoshop. You make and combine shapes to create greater pieces of art. One thing about Illustrator that was kind of hard to use until I started getting the gist of it was the pen tool. It is difficult to figure out at first, but when you play around with it and use it out a little bit, you can start to get the hang of it. In Illustrator, you can draw and create on multiple art boards and even off the actual art boards, which you can't really do in Photoshop. When you save a project with multiple art boards as a PNG file, it can even save the different art boards as different files easily. I think Illustrator is a fun and different program that I am getting the hang of pretty well.

In our Digital Design and Animation class we have moved on from using Adobe Photoshop and bitmap graphics to create digital art projects to using Adobe Illustrator to create images with Vector graphics. Vector graphics work very differently than bitmap graphics. Vectors are compiled of shapes and such, while bitmaps have individual pixels that you manipulate. Vectors would probably work better when making things such as logos or simpler, less complex designs. Using bitmap graphics would be much better if you were to be editing or altering photos. Bitmaps are also much better for digital painting than vector graphics would be. Vectors could be used to design posters, logos, website graphics, stickers, or maybe clothing designs or patterns. I think vector graphics are much better to use if what you are going for is more geometric, more precise. Vectors are easier to be precisely manipulated than bitmaps are. However, bitmaps are better if you want something more natural. Personally, I prefer bitmaps to vectors a lot as I am much more experienced with bitmaps and have used them much more than I have used vectors. I have used them a lot in the past. I do a lot of digital painting, which is done with bitmap graphics. I also find them easier to use. That being said, vectors are, however, something that I think I can get the hang of and learn to use to create cool things. So far, vectors have been pretty alright to work with. I am exited to learn more about them.
